Steven Corn, President of Viewpoint Consulting Services, has spent over thirty years on nearly every side of the independent music business: distribution, publishing, sync licensing, and business affairs. He co-founded BFM Digital, an independent distributor that grew to more than 325,000 recordings and represented 650 content partners before it was acquired by The Orchard/Sony Music. He also co-founded BFM Jazz, whose releases have earned five Grammy® Awards and 17 nominations. Today he heads business affairs at Made In Memphis Entertainment, teaches music business courses at the Los Angeles College of Music and is an educational ambassador for the MLC.
He is also a certified mediator and the founder of Metis Mediation Services, where he helps artists, songwriters, labels, and families resolve disputes without going to court. He is rostered with the Maryland Circuit and District Courts and DC Superior Court. His view is simple. For an independent artist, a dispute that drags on costs more than legal fees. It costs time, momentum, and control. His forthcoming book, Beyond The Argument: The Fight You’re In Is Not The Problem You’re Solving, looks at the gap between what people ask for in a conflict and what they actually need.
