Spotlight Interview: Austin Wintory talks game music
Presented by the Society of Composers & Lyricists

Unlike film or television music, video game music must respond fluidly to player choices and shifting gameplay. This panel dives into the creative and logistical challenges of scoring games, exploring how composers approach interactivity, adapt their writing process, and collaborate with developers and audio teams. Grammy®-nominated game composer, Austin Wintory, will share insights on breaking into the industry, handling feedback from large teams, and making key decisions around recording and implementation. Whether you’re new to game audio or refining your craft, this session offers a practical look at composing beyond the linear score.
Wintory joins Ashley Irwin, President of the Society of Composers & Lyricists, to discuss his creative process and experiences composing for both video games and film. Attendees will gain a unique perspective on crafting immersive soundscapes, collaborating with developers and directors, and exploring how music can shape narrative and player experience.
