Sherri is an economic developer working at the intersection of culture, creativity, and business. She presently serves as a consultant to LED’s Entertainment Division and is working on a music hub development in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans. Her efforts have included stints with Boston Consulting Group for their international clients interested in developing their entertainment sectors and with Sound Diplomacy for domestic music strategies.
Prior to that McConnell served as Assistant to the Secretary for Special Projects & Public Policy at Louisiana Economic Development, where she developed policy that treats creative industry as a true economic development strategy. Her efforts to craft new laws that prioritize content creators in film, music and gaming and their intellectual property value stream are the first in the country and have caused economic development organizations to look beyond culture as just an amenity and design strategies for creative industry development.
Sherri also headed LED’s Office of Entertainment Industry Development which administers the tax incentive programs for Film, Music, Digital Media and Live Performance.
She is a proud Board member of the Greater Baton Rouge Regional Arts Council, a founding member of the Baton Rouge Blues Foundation as well as the New Orleans Music Economy Initiative (NOME); McConnell has served as Chairman of the La Cultural Economy Foundation and is the recipient of the Sweet Arts Award for her contributions to the New Orleans arts community.
