With over 30 years’ international music publishing experience, David Alexander provides consulting services to the Copyright Industry, supporting & advising clients on how best to navigate the complexities of the music rights world, and in so doing maximize their business’ opportunities.

David’s journey in the music publishing world began 25 years ago, when he founded Sheer Music Publishing, and grew it from a small boutique South African music publisher into the largest independent music publishing company on the African continent, and a pan-African power house, with a market share comparable to the multi-nationals’ African businesses. 

In February of 2020 Sheer Publishing was sold to Downtown Music Holdings, where David worked across the group, and was promoted to Senior Vice-President of New Markets, overseeing the roll out of Downtown’s Operating Companies in 6 key fast developing regions across the world. 

In 2024 David made the USA and Atlanta the new home for his family, and is now the President of David Alexander Consulting LLC, providing consulting services to the Copyright Industry in the USA and internationally, working with publishers, composers & rights organizations.

In addition to his expertise as a publisher, David also has extensive experience in the CMO environment, working with many CMOs across Africa, where he helped drive the adoption of global best practices; his work with many CMOs in South America and Asia has also helped enrich his expertise in the global CMO environment.

David has also served on the Boards of numerous global organizations, including the IMPF (Independent Music Publishers Forum) and the ICMP.

Since his move to the US, David now serves as Treasurer on the Board of AIMP Atlanta chapter, and is a Professional member of the Recording Academy.

David was also featured in the Billboard 100 International Players list for 2022 and 2023.
